Remote Learning Extended

posted Jan 8, 2021, 7:33 AM by Tania Gamache   [ updated Jan 8, 2021, 7:36 AM ]

 Dear Tiger Cub Families

As recently announced, our in-person school will remain on-line/remote for another two weeks with an expected return date of January 25th, 2021.

While assessment continues during the remote learning period, families are encouraged to continue to use their judgement to determine how much remote instruction in front of a screen is acceptable/possible.  Staff are being encouraged to also gage how much work in-front of the camera vs independent study or group work is best for their students. Not all learning experiences will require online computer-related tasks. I have faith and trust in my staff and I know they will provide the best learning opportunities for your children given these pandemic conditions.

More detailed information from OCSB can be found here: Ontario Extends Remote Learning (OCSB)

We thank all our families for your continued support and understanding while we continue to navigate these challenging and uncertain times.

With gratitude,

Mrs. G

January 4th - Return to School Plan

posted Dec 31, 2020, 2:49 PM by Tania Gamache

Hello DI Tiger Cub Families (Virtual & In-Person),

To recap our director of education, Mr. D’Amico’s MEMO sent to you on December 22nd following Ontario Premiere Doug Ford’s announcement of the province-wide shutdown, all Ontario elementary schools will be closed for all K to 6 students January 4th to 8th, 2021.

For those families already in the virtual school there is no change to your child’s learning format come January 4th and you will resume as normal.

For in-person families your children will resume with teacher directed online learning.

In-Person staff who are returning on January 4th will require some time to transition to remote/on-line teaching.  Before the regular lunch hour period (12 pm) on Monday, parents/students will receive a Google Meet link to connect with their classroom teachers. This short video Google Meet Basics for students will teach you how to connect your child(ren) with their teachers for this day and the rest of the week. Educators will design the format of the day similar to that of a regular school day. However, parents may ultimately decide the appropriate amount of online screen time for their child each day.

If your child does not have access to a device for distance learning this week, please email me directly at tania.gamache@ocsb.ca.  In the email, please include your child’s full name, grade and teacher(s).  I will contact you on Monday, January 4th to arrange a pick up time at school. This request is to come directly to me and not to your child’s teacher please.

Happy New Year to you and your family.  Please continue to stay safe and healthy and I look forward to seeing you all in person soon.

Please never hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I will always try my best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Please see Special VIDEO Message from Father Waldemar this Christmas Season

With gratitude,

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are officially nearing the Christmas BREAK and our Tiger Cub Team is so grateful to have had this time with your children and are looking forward new beginnings in 2021!

A huge shout out to our AMAZING little community for collecting 600 non-perishable items for Orleans Food Cupboard and an additional $245.  All items will be delivered to the food bank this week. They are so grateful for our support.  In addition, our Christmas Spirit PJ Day generated a whopping $1300 for our own community families in need. We are truly blessed to be part of this thoughtful and kind community.

The DI staff wishes all of you a WONDERFUL & SAFE Christmas Season!

AM - Kiss & DROP

posted Nov 27, 2020, 12:32 PM by Tania Gamache   [ updated Dec 1, 2020, 7:19 AM ]

Effective tomorrow/ Thursday, November 26th in the MORNINGS ONLY between 9:00 and 9:15 am, we will be offering a ‘KISS and DROP’ during the Winter months. The parking will still be closed, but you will be permitted to enter the bus lane to drop off your child(ren). You will only be required to get out of the driver's seat, if your child needs assistance getting out of a booster. Otherwise, your children will EXIT the PASSENGER side and staff will be there to open car doors (if needed) as your child(ren) walk safely to the yard. For safety you will have to stay to the right of the laneway and follow the directional traffic flow. This means NO passing.  This will require your patience, especially if you are behind a bus. The bus will have to unload before you can follow it to the main road. Your child can only exit the car when they are at the curb. Upon arrival to the lane, please follow the visual directioning of the staff outside. At the end of the day, the PARK A BLOCK & WALK is still in effect. This will be monitored more closely starting tomorrow.
