TOONIES for TERRY!

Our Terry Fox Walk/Run at Divine Infant - the week of September 28th!

We are pleased to announce that we will be  having our annual Terry Fox Walk/Run for Cancer Research at Divine Infant School the week of September 28th!  We are happy to support the Terry Fox Run for the 10th consecutive year and to keep the spirit of this amazing Canadian hero alive.  We will be doing the run a little differently this year.

Students will be walking / running during their Phys. Ed. class sometime during the week of September 28th.  All students will participate with either just their class or with their outdoor recess cohort.  Social distancing will be followed during the walk. This will be a walk/run around a set route in the school yard and soccer field.

We are encouraging everyone to donate a “Toonie for Terry” (or any amount of your choice will be greatly appreciated).  All donations will be online this year, no money can be collected.  Follow the link posted below to donate. Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school and wears comfortable walking/running shoes all next week.  We look forward to learning more about Terry Fox and honouring his memory by collecting donations for this very worthy cause.

Good Afternoon Tiger CUB Parents & Guardians:

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all back to school and for those that are new, welcome to the Cubs family!

We are pleased to announce that we have been given approval to move forward with establishing the 2020-2021 Parent Council and we will do so virtually on Thursday October 1, 2020 at 6:30pm.

Google Meet Link:  https://meet.google.com/epa-pnkm-tnw

As is customary, elections will take place at our first meeting, but it will look a little different this year.  ALL parents/guardians, including those currently members of council wishing to continue this year, are asked to complete the attached Self-Nomination Form and return to diparentcouncil@gmail.com no later than Tuesday September 29, 2020. Positions with only one nomination are acclaimed.  Should more than one person be interested, those individuals will be notified and asked to prepare a short (1-2mins) speech, following which a confidential vote will take place.

Thank you and we look forward to an amazing year ahead of us!

Megan (Chair) and Melissa (Vice Chair)

First Day - IMPORTANT Reminders

posted Sep 6, 2020, 9:25 AM by Tania Gamache   [ updated Sep 6, 2020, 9:26 AM ]

Dear Parents/Guardians:

It’s hard to believe that the first day of school has finally arrived!  Our staff are very excited to welcome K to 3 students on Tuesday and ALL students K to 6 on Wednesday.

Please remember busses are not running until September 14th. Visit OSTA Parent Portal for more details.

Effective this year, the laneway in front of the school and parking lot will be CLOSED between 9:00 and 9:30 and again from 3:30 to 4:00. For the safety of your children, your cooperation with this new change is very important.  Once the busses are up and running, we will have a combination of busses and special transportation vans both entering and exiting the laneway and for this reason it will be closed all year.

Parents PICKING UP & DROPPING OFF are encouraged to park on side streets and use the crosswalk on Jeanne D’Arc consistently. It is staffed everyday with an OCSB crossing guard for the safety of your children.  Children will enter and exit the school yard via the kinder yard or through the back field of the school.  No students will be allowed to exit/enter the school yard by the parking lot.  Directional flow is key in helping us ensure students are safely distanced and stay safe this year! Families with accessibility passes will have access to the parking, but will need to enter and exit the school yard in the same fashion (through kinder yard). Again, your cooperation is GREATLY appreciated as we navigate this new normal together.

All students will be considered WALKERS for the first week of school.  Kinder students can be picked up in the kinder yard. All grade 1 to 6 students will be dismissed to the back of the school. To ensure proper distancing, we need parents to wait away from the school on the GRASS/PAVEMENT line for their child.

For this first week while busses are not running, students will be dismissed to the back of the school at the following times:

3:30pm - JK/SK and Grade 1

3:35pm - Grade 2 and 3

3:40pm- Grade 4, 5 and 6

3:45pm- Junior students who walk home alone

MASKS:  Grade 4 and up a mask is mandatory. K to 3 a mask is optional. If your child is wearing a mask to school, they will be required to keep the mask with them at all times, even during recess.  So please discuss options with your child as to where he/she can keep his/her mask safe/clean during outdoor play if he/she chooses to remove it while outside. (eg. fanny pack, clip to shirt etc.).

I look forward to seeing and meeting all or your children very soon!

With gratitude and appreciation,

Tania Gamache (Mrs. G)

Hello DI Tiger Cub Parent Community,

I wanted to take the time to introduce myself as your new principal this year at Divine Infant Catholic School. I have been working with the OCSB for 20 years either teaching, in special education, as a Vice-Principal and now newly appointed Principal at this AMAZING school.

Our OCSB executive team at the top led by Mr. D’Amico and Mrs. Donaghy are working exuberantly long hours to provide us with updates daily and sometimes hourly. Our district supervisor Mr. Kettles and our school custodian M. Gilles are being diligent in providing all the safety items required for our school.  Our stellar educators are setting up the best learning opportunities that encompass the safety and wellness of your child. This is certainly not a typical start up, but I want to assure you that we are working hard as a school team to make sure the school year is GREAT and SAFE for your children.

If you haven’t already done so, please familiarize yourself with some of the changes in the BACK TO School Plan (eg. Staggered Entry Dates for both distance and in-person learning).  Please continue to verify with Back To School Plan - Frequently Asked Questions  that are being updated daily.

Please note the Student Back to School List (Suggested). This year, students will be required to keep all of their belongings with them in their assigned seats. Therefore, students will not be permitted personal items (ie. toys) to school.  Only personal items for educational purposes will be allowed.

If you choose to purchase a chromebook for your child this year, be sure to visit the ocsb website for our STAPLES partnership. They offer an interest free payment plan for ocsb students.

Final details about entry points and new school safety routines for both students and parents will be communicated later this week.

If you don’t already follow our school on Twitter @DivInfantOCSB, please do so as I am retweeting updates from the school board as well as sharing school based updates & news on a regular basis.

If your child is attending school. I look forward to meeting them very soon in person.  For those of you who have chosen distance learning, I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

As always, your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we navigate this new territory together.

Kind regards,

Tania Gamache
